The fourth volume of the Collected Works of Jan Firbas contains articles published between 1987 and 1993. In this period, the author deepens the analysis of the relationship between intonation and functional sentence perspective, clarifies the definition of the starting point of an utterance and addresses issues of potentiality and immediately relevant context. Like the previous three volumes covering works from 1951–1986, the fourth volume also contains prefaces, annotations, and biographical notes.
