Culture et identité en Europe centrale
Title in English: Culture and identity in central Europe. Canons of literature and vision of history
The publication brings together the research of twenty Central European and French historians, literary historians and philosophers who have focused on the issue of cultural identity in Central Europe. This region, unlike countries in Western Europe, where identity has been and continues to be more dependent on the state and its institutions, has placed, during the 19th century, culture, language and literature into the centre of national identity. This common starting point has resulted in various parts of Europe in different shapes depending on historical circumstances. This book systematically follows individual, cultural and historical scopes - the Polish, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Jewish and Ukrainian one – with emphasis on the development from the 19th century until these days. The book is being published as a joint publication of the Parisian Institut d’Études Slaves and of Masaryk University.
