Kapitoly z environmentální estetiky

This publication strives to inform the reader about the main concepts of environmental aesthetics, the movement which in the latter half of the 20th century helped to shift the focus of aesthetic theory towards nature and other environments. The first half of the book delineates the aesthetics of nature from the by then predominant aesthetics of art, and then introduces and critically assesses the two main trends in the environmental aesthetics, the cognitive and the non-cognitive one. The second part delves deeper into underlying issues of this movement – the question what exactly an environment is, how to assess it, and indeed what is the essence of this assessment or aesthetic experience. Last, the appendix lists the aesthetic concepts of current natural scientists and presents several environmental-aesthetic topics in the context of the landscape character assessment in the Czech Republic.
