Konflikty ve skutečné a „nové“ východní Africe

The ambition of this publication is to provide the reader with an overview of the security reality of East Africa that will serve as a model for the reality of a hypothetical region created on the East African basis designed for simulation purposes of a conflict resolution. The authors first introduce twelve armed conflicts that took place in East Africa since the end of the Cold War and then focus on the capacities of the African Union in conflict management. Detailed analysis of the effectiveness of the AU in this field points out the gap between its security mandate and resources for its implementation that must be eliminated if the AU really intends to achieve its goal of "integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa". Based on the findings about the East Africa the authors provide details on a hypothetical region "New East Africa", which is primarily intended as a basis for the simulation of conflict resolution, but is designed broadly enough to be used also for the simulation purposes of a different kind.
