Control mechanisms as a guarantee of legality belong among the most important instruments of environmental law enforcement, in both general and specific areas of environmental protection. The book consists of fourteen chapters. Eight chapters explore the meaning, function, content and limits of various control, inspection and compliance monitoring mechanisms and measures employed in environmental protection, and their position in international, European and national law. Three chapters deals with competences of the key players equipped with control and inspection competences such as official authorities and courts. Furthermore, monograph covers legal aspects of inspections carried out on the basis of the public initiative (two chapters), or even focus on specific legal questions of international bodies' decision making.
