Mediální integrace národa v době globalizace
Title in English: Media integration of the nation in the age of globalization
This book focuses on the role of the mass media in the process of national integration and representation of the nationalistic discourse. Within the frame of the ritualistic model of communication, he analyses some of the most important forms of the nation-integrative effects of the mass media, particularly mediation of ceremonial events and symbolic presentation and reproduction of the nationalistic discourse within the realm of everyday life. In the second part of the thesis, the author shifts his analytical attention towards the current dynamics of global media markets, shaped by the forces of marketisation and internationalisation, which are supposed to have undermined the autonomy and creative potential of local/national culture. However, according to the author, there is a strong evidence of continuing attractiveness of the national media content and, therefore, the enduring nation-integrative function of the mass media even at the beginning of the 21st century.
