Title in English: From Arcitecture to Interpretation
What is the difference between the presentation and representation of architecture? What media can be used to interpret it? What do we understand by the term “architectural ricordo”, and how can today’s researchers and architects engage with it? These questions and many others are explored by the authors of the monograph “From Architecture to Interpretation”, which is the fifth and final publication in a series on architectural theory, produced under the auspices of Professor Jiří Kroupa and the Department of Art History at Masaryk University. This publication follows a workshop of the same name held on June 7–8, 2024, focusing on the interpretation of architecture and the methods of its (re)presentation. The authors reflect on these issues from both methodological and terminological perspectives while addressing additional aspects that provide current insights into the state of research in this field. In addition to theoretical exploration, they consider practical approaches, including various media through which architecture can be interpreted: painting, drawing, graphics, photography, and period texts such as egodocuments and philosophical, religious, and theoretical writings. Covering topics from the Renaissance to the present, the authors enhance our understanding of the subject by reflecting on key concepts and approaches to interpreting, presenting, and displaying architecture.
