Od dějin umění k uměleckému dílu

The artworks of different historical epochs often speak to us today in a complicated language. It is not always easy for a 21st-century person to understand all the layers of their meaning as they might have been perceived by viewers at the time of their creation. It is the recovery and discovery of lost meanings that forms a significant part of the professional interest of the leading representative of the Brno School of Art History, Prof. Jiří Kroupa, PhDr., CSc. The authors of the texts in the present publication, prepared in honour of the professor, have focused on various layers of visual culture from the Middle Ages to the 20th century through various methodological approaches. The book is divided into three thematic sections focusing on visual culture and art of the Middle Ages and early modern period, on art and architecture of the modern era, and finally on historiography, methodology and theory of art history.
