On Expressing Meaning in English Conversation

The monograph deals with the notion of socio-pragmatic meaning in authentic English face-to-face conversation studying features of semantic indeterminacy typical of this genre (indirectness, implicitness, attenuation, accentuation, vagueness). Language material is taken from the book A Corpus of English Conversation (eds. Quirk and Svartvik).
