110 pages of this book were conceived at the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the publication of Einstein’s theory of special relativity (1905). Professor Ženíšek, renowned specialist in applied mathematics, explains the theory in an original way. He also adds a commented translation of two crucial Einstein’s papers. The text is supplemented by an exposition on the photon theory of light, Minkowski’s four-dimensional space and four-vectors, Lorentz transformations of Maxwell’s equations, and finally different transformation coordinates. The problems are explained in a precise but accessible, perhaps even poetic way. After all, how the author himself says in the preface: “The basics of the theory of special relativity are full of poetry.”
