The textbook presents those thematic areas of the history of ethnography/ethnology that form the primary basis and presumption of academic research. Thus, these areas are part of the academic education of ethnologists and other related fields of study. The aim of this handbook is to provide the persons interested in the study of ethnology with the elementary approaches in discovering the history of this discipline in Moravia, from the early interest in the subjects and phenomena of folk nature, through the “long nineteenth century” to the advanced stage of scholarly analyses of folk culture, with some insights into the beginning of the interwar period. The focus is laid on the specification of the range of information sources; the methodology and techniques of historical research are also taken into consideration.
